Didn't intend to flood the group, folks! I thought the posts would be shuffled in to the group in the regular order by date/time, not dumped all on top. Anyway, some cute stuff there.
As you were.
*runs away blushing profusely*
Olivia update:
She's still cute, still owns my heart. We can add smiling (two weeks ago) and laughing (last week, although she giggled in her sleep before that) to her list o' skillz!! She is also working hard on trying to coordinate her spastic and robust leg and arm movements. She's over ten pounds now and going strong! Yay, bahbeh!
Here are some recent pictures of my darling grandbaby:
Platypus genome cracked! Platypus cracked, genetically. Really. It's got bird, reptile and mammalian genes. It's the mixmaster of the animal kingdom! A monotreme, as you all know, it lays eggs, produces milk (no nipples, though, it oozes milk through its tummy skin. Yes, it does.). The males are venomous. It has what looks like a leather bill for a snout. So how does it smell? Terrific! Well, actually, it does have a very sensitive sense of smell. Who knew?
Platypuses (the plural, or simply platypus — like a bunch of sheep are still called sheep — or platypoda in the collective) are the way ossimest creature. A parts car, if you will, of creatures. I wonder if you could keep a few in your pool full of manatees. The one above is saying, "Wheeee!"
And now, a poem.
The Platypus
by Ogden NashI like the duck-billed platypus
Because it is anomalous.
I like the way it raises its family
Partly birdly, partly mammaly.
I like its independent attitude.
Let no one call it a duck-billed platitude.

My Hedgehog Fest souvenir (it lights up, disco style):
It was geeky and fun, and I got to hold a hedgie for the first time! I met my local (well, sort of local, as in a couple hundred miles or so) hedgehog breeders, bought the Hedgehog Primer and saw many cute hedgies. Next year, I hope to have a hedgie of my own. Yay!
Show us a picture of the pet you'd most like to have in your life.
A European hedgehog. Or two. Or four. I know they aren't domesticated, but honestly, they are my idea of the ultimate cute hedgie. I will eventually get an African pygmy hedgehog, because they are the only hedgies permitted as pets in my state. They are also hellacute.
African pygmy hedgie pic belongs to Michael at Mr. Toffe's site.
